What is it with dis place and fire alarms?!?!?!

Less than 2wks back, the fire alarms in my flat went off, but it turned out to be a false alarm. And today, at about 5:00 PM after I just got back from class, there it goes again. That same TWEED TWEED deafaning noise from the smoke detectors!

My inital reaction - 'But no one's cooking anything dis time!!'. It took me a while to figure out that the alarm didn't trip off in my flat, but it was from somewhere else. And there was a hint of smoke in the air too. So as usual, in come the RA's....evacuating everyone out. This time there was no false alarm...the girls in the flat above mine were cooking rice, and they ended up burning it...which filled the entire place with smoke....

Now how could someone possibly burn rice in a rice cooker is beyond me!! And that too coming from the chinese...whom I presume have had enuf practice cooking it (",). The usual gala followed...fire brigade....fire fighters....bla...bla...

The good thing was that there was still a bit of datlight left. Unlike last time, I managed to get some decent snaps....Though I dont think the fire dept was too pleased with one Indian kid holding a cup of coffee in one hand, snapping away pictures with the other, while they were busy wid their work....Anyway...atleast got a few decent snaps in the bargain...

So I've come to two conclusions after all dis...

1. Don't get surprised if I hear the fire alarms again....Its kinda normal now...
2. Burned rice smells reaaaaalllly bad... (",)
